Editor’s Note
Welcome, 2025! It’s a New Year, and that Means Changes Are-a-Coming! So, that’s what we’re writing about in this month’s issue of Princeton Perspectives.
What changes? Well, there are political changes, both federal and stateside. There are also financial and economic possibilities. We take a closer look at all of them. Some have people fearful; others have folks excited.
What changes are you looking forward to as 2025 kicks off? We asked locals in town, and those willing to stop in the cold weather to talk with us deserve to be heard! You can find some positive influence in this month’s Pulse of Princeton video.

Perspectives Revisited
For nearly 1.5 years, the Princeton community has been in limbo, wondering what the future of its school district would be. Now, there is resolution, as Princeton Public Schools announced last week it has hired a new head of schools! We shared in Perspectives Revisited (November 2023) that former Superintendent Carol Kelley resigned in October 2023. Kathie Foster has served as Interim since then, but her allowable term expires on June 30th. A recent Board of Education meeting approved Mike LaSusa, 13-year Superintendent for the School District of the Chathams in Chatham, NJ, to start as the new leader in Princeton on July 1st. LaSusa is leaving a multi-decade career in The Chathams, where he started as a Spanish and Social Studies teacher at Chatham High School, working his way up as Principal to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and then Superintendent.
Did you happen to catch the NJ Hall of Fame induction ceremony on PBS at the end of December? If not, you should know two Princeton geniuses made the cut! We first shared the honor of some esteemed members of our community received in the article Local Connections of NJ Hall of Fame Nominees, found in the issue Reaching Higher – Princeton Neighbors Making an Impact Locally and Beyond (May 2022). Amongst the latest 2024 inductees were Dr. John Forbes Nash, Jr. and Avi Wigderson, both from Princeton. Nash was a math wizard. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for Economics, he was a Senior Research Mathematician at Princeton University when he began working on his famed Nash Equilibrium Theory. Avi Wigderson, also a brilliant mathematician, is currently a professor at the School of Mathematics, Institute for Advanced Study. A Princeton University Graduate, Wigderson won a Turing Award, the highest esteem granted in computer science. Both Nash and Wigderson also won the Abel Award, said to be the top honor to receive in mathematics.
